Crochet Box Braids vs Traditional Box Braids

I LOVE braids! They are so convenient and easy ! The part I hate is the process of getting them done. Sitting for hours. I’d always have to get them done on a day off. And usually the braider wasn’t professional at all. They’d over book, smoke cigarettes in your face. Take impromptu breaks. sometimes even have someone else start or finish you. On more than one occasion the braider that was assisting was not as good as the one I booked my appointment with. So I was pissed. When I found out about crochet braids,I HAD to learn how to put them in! And was it cost effective? I have never been a braider. I love to cut and color hair. That is my niche. But with the influx of calls and inquiries about braiding services I had to learn this skill.2X-TANTALIZING-TWIST-BRAID-22-Inch-Janet-Collection-Noir-Synthetic-Crochet-Braid03a64a2d710e73d3c15605b2ef00dc78

Crochet braids are completed by cornrowing your hair, and using a crochet needle to attach synthetic kanekelon hair (i.e. marley hair), pre-braided or twisted box braids and Senegalese twists, or even faux locs to the cornrows. Crochet braids, on the other hand, take an average of 2 hours to install, depending on the type of hair you are using and how voluminous you want your hair to be. You can achieve the same style and look as individual braids in half the time, with less effort and by yourself! Best of all, it takes less time to take down crochet braids than normal braids because all you have to do is cut off the extensions and unravel your cornrows.

Depending on the size of your head and the thickness of your hair, you may use 4 – 7 packs of hair to complete your crochet braids. However, by changing up the braid pattern of your cornrows and creating bigger sections at the back of your hair, you can use less packs of hair and still achieve a full look. Installing long braids or twists may cost up to $150-$200 at the hair salon.  Yet, if you pay someone $30 to cornrow your hair or you do it yourself, and you buy 6 packs of hair worth $6.99 each, you will be spending a total of $71.94 on your hair.

Totally worth it !
